In “Life of the Beloved”, Henry J.M. Nouwen points to the fact that you are beloved of God and that this expresses the core truth of your existence; therefore, you need to hear and claim the truth of your beloved ness. God declares “You are my beloved, on you my favor rests”. This truth will allow you to let go of what distracts you, confuses you and puts you in jeopardy of the life of the spirit within you. This truth will set you free to receive the beauty of nature and culture in gratitude as a sign of your beloved ness. This truth will allow you to receive gifts from your society and celebrate life.

If you are not listening to the voice that calls you beloved you will go on running helter-skelter, always anxious and restless, always lustful and angry and never fully satisfied. This eventually leads to spiritual exhaustion and burn out. You must believe that you were loved before the world began; this utterly changes your life from living life as a painful test to prove that you deserve to be loved, to living it as an unceasing “yes” to the truth of your beloved ness. The unfathomable mystery of God is that He is a lover who is constantly pouring His love upon you.
